Exchange Supplies is a Dorchester based social enterprise that has grown organically over the last 15 years to a turnover of over £3m pa, selling over 300 product lines some of which sell more than a million units a month.

Being the inventor and sole supplier of products which are critical to health means that running out of stock can cause real problems for our customers, and their clients. As we continue to grow, ensuring that our supply chain runs smoothly has now become this full time job:

Job Title

  • Demand and Supply Planner

Hours and Salary

  • Total hours per week: negotiable, preferably full time, but we may be able to accommodate a 4 day working week
  • Work times 9–5 Monday to Friday
  • Salary is negotiable according to experience, but is likely to be in the range £22,442 (£10.79ph) – £25,779 (£12.39).

The post will be based in our central Dorchester office (off Great Western Road, opposite the skate park)

Job Purpose:

  • Place orders so that we have stock when we need it;
  • Liaise with, and build relationships with our suppliers;
  • Continuously improve our understanding of demand, our forecasts, and stock ordering; and
  • Improve our supply chain resilience.

Key responsibilities

The post holder will report to the Commercial Manager who is an experienced Merchandiser, and will:

  • Maintain overview of stock availability and ordering need
  • Place orders on time and ensure delivery dates are met
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Improve the ordering processes
  • Ensure that the information on the website accurately represents the stock on sale, and is updated promptly when product specifications are changed
  • Provide management information and reports
  • Calculate goods received but not invoiced on a monthly basis
  • Adding supplier invoices onto the system
  • Reconcile stock value with the balance sheet
  • Work with the warehouse team to ensure deliveries are properly checked and recorded
  • To interface with pack packing operations to ensure that they have adequate stock
  • Keep suppliers of utilities, carriage and other overhead costs under review, and ensure that we are getting best value

The successful candidate will have:

  • A well organised approach to work
  • Be able to plan workload to meet deadlines and timescales
  • Have good people skills, and be keen to work as part of a small team

  • The ablity to cope with pressure
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Computer literacy, and experience of using spreadsheets and accounting systems
  • Numerate and able to count stock, and remember product codes.
