Biography
Annette has been Director of Quality at the National Treatment Agency (NTA) since the NTA came on line in Autumn 2001. She manages the Quality Directorate at the NTA comprising a clinical team, research team, policy team, and standards and inspection unit and is responsible for the identification and development of evidence-based guidance, policy and research, good practice, quality standards and inspection.
She has authored over 60 research and policy publications on drug related topics, including: Models of Care (NTA 2001), QuADS (Alcohol Concern and DrugScope 1999), Young People and Drugs: policy guidance for drugs interventions (1999). Her recent work includes developing and promoting the NTA Treatment Effectiveness Strategy and Models of Care for Alcohol Misusers. In 2005 Annette set up a collaborative trans-Atlantic project with the Institute of Behavioral Research, Texas, on drug treatment effectiveness.
She is frequently invited to speak at national conferences.
Prior to work at the NTA Annette was: Director of Policy at the national drugs umbrella charity Drugscope (previously SCODA) for 6 years; a research fellow at the Centre for Research on Drugs and Health Behaviour (Imperial College) for 6 years; and with a background in psychology has also co-ordinated community detoxification services and worked as a practitioner in adolescent and drug residential rehabilitation units.
