Reducing drug-related harm: an action plan

Abstract
In May 2007 the department of health in England and the National Treatment Agency published reducing harm: an action plan. This short presentation will inform the conference of the key messages of the plan; planned activity for the coming year including the publication of needle exchange and other harm reduction good practice guidance; the improvement plans that are being put in place following the joint NTA and Healthcare Commission review of harm reduction; and the implications of the NICE and clinical guidelines (also published in 2007) upon services for injecting and other drug users.

Biography
Hugo Luck is on secondment to NTA head office from the south east region, where he has been NTA regional manager since November 2001. Prior to that he was Co-ordinator for the North Yorkshire and City of York Drug Action Teams. A qualified social worker specialising in addictions, he has worked in a variety of acute and community settings.
