Returns, drug litter & needle exchange

Abstract
Needle exchange schemes face a dual challenge in ensuring enough injecting equipment is issued and also working to increase returns and minimise drug litter. This balance is definitely achievable and this presentation, using examples from work in Bradford, will explain how.

Biography
John Bolloten joined the Bradford Needle Exchange Scheme as a clerk back in 1988 and within a few years became its' co-ordinator. The scheme has continued to develop year on year and received maximum marks in the Healthcare Commission review of harm reduction in 2008.
John, alongside key local colleagues, devised a pioneering needle exchange database (launched in 2007) that gives clear, accurate and detailed data about the scheme, its' service users and patterns of risk behaviour.
