From LARK to hi we can help
Roweena Russell, Harm Reduction Strategy Manager, North Tyneside Drug Action Team
Abstract
This presentation will share the learning from the development of the hi harm reduction/treatment web based application. This site was developed for drug users, drug treatment workers and people who care for drug users. Starting off as LARK (Live Assessment Resource Kit) this site developed into the more 21st century look and feel of hiwecanhelp.co.uk
The site is ambitious in its scope introduces more technology to the harm reduction message. Hi also aims to provide a virtual "desktop" for anyone working with drug users providing easily accessible referral forms, agency details and provides National and local best practice guidelines.
The first phase of hiwecanhelp.co.uk went live on the 4th of November 2008 and was greeted with enthusiasm and excitement. Describing the current site as phase one is an important element of what hi aims to do. Through hi membership DATs and service provides have a space to demonstrate the good work they are doing, share best practice, join discussion forums and have a vote in how the site develops in future phases.
As the entire site is not available to the public, this presentation will introduce participant to how the site functions and provide information to the behind the scenes aspects. Participants will also have the opportunity to see what hi is doing to develop creative home or group workshops and activities for drug users in treatment. Participants will learn how to link in to hi and how hi helps to connect people, services and organisations.
