The Methadone Briefing

When it was first published The Methadone Briefing was the definitive practice manual for methadone prescribing in the UK, and was the first evidence based, practice oriented text book that attempted to pull together the theory, research and practical day-to-day realities of treatment.

Although it was written between 1994 and 1996, while I was working as a CPN for a community drug team in West Dorset, much of the book is still relevant, and this is why we have left it online. All I ask is that before reading it, you read the new preface which has important notes on dose and detox that should be read by everyone using the book to inform their practice.

I am grateful to the other authors who collaborated on the book and reviewed the manuscript - without them the book wouldn't have been anything like as authoritative or influential as it was.
