The Ballad of the Two Charlies aims to accelerate the process of understanding the problems caused by crack use by drawing on the stories of a group of people engaged in crime and crack use, and communicating their experiences to a younger audience who are on the fringes of this lifestyle.
Developed out of a crack intervention project funded by Salford DAAT, It is a 32 page superbly illustrated poem, printed in a large book format (24cm x 24cm) on quality paper and tells the story of Charlie Chalk and Charlie Cheese and their experiences with crack cocaine... and is combined with a great animated version on a free DVD.
The book is designed to be given out to arrestees who have tested positive for cocaine, either at a police station or as part of the Drug Intervention Program.
Aims: This publication aims to raise the issue of cocaine and cocaine smoking among young offenders. It is designed to give a detailed explanation of how cocaine problems can develop and compares the problems and stigma of using heroin with those of smoking cocaine.
Audience: Regular or occasional cocaine users aged 16+ who are in contact with the criminal justice system.
Content: Explicit language, comic violence and cartoon sexual imagery.
