Effective and safe working with young people who inject
This course is designed for all those who work with, or are responsible for, the development of services for young drug users.
The course will enable participants to understand and implement the principles of assessing competency to consent to needle exchange and other forms of drug treatment.
The course will give participants the structure they need to deliver services that can properly assess young people and deliver services that reduce drug related harm, identify young drug users who meet child protection or child in need criteria and meet all the relevant statutory, record keeping and
professional requirements.
Learning objectives
- Understand the historical perspectives of needle exchange and the implications for young people's substance misuse services;
- Understand the current UK law regarding young people and needle exchange provision;
- Enhance the confidence of practitioners, managers and commisioners in working in this challenging area; and
- Identify the principles that are required for robust policies, procedures and protocols as a basis for good practice.
